How to find generator test and inspection requirements

Q: Where can I find the exact documentation requirements for weekly and monthly generator tests? Meaning, what readings, temperatures, amp, etc., need to be recorded to satisfy the accreditation organization?

A: For the most part, Chapter 8 of NFPA 110-2010 is going to provide you with the information you are seeking.

According to 8.1.1, the routine maintenance and operational testing program shall be based on all of the following:

  1. Manufacturer’s recommendations
  2. Instruction manuals
  3. Minimum requirements of this chapter
  4. The authority having jurisdiction (AHJ)

For the most part, Chapter 8 of NFPA 110-2010 is going to provide you with the information you are seeking.
