New HFAP COO looks at the future of safety and accreditation

In September 2011, former safety and emergency management consultant Joe Cappiello, BSN, MA, was hired as the chief operating officer (COO) of the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) in Chicago. Briefings on Hospital Safety had a chance to speak with Cappiello, also a former vice president of accreditation field operations at The Joint Commission, about his objectives for HFAP, its distinction from The Joint Commission, and the agency's goals for safety and emergency management.
